. >> jennifer: talk about that. you obviously know paul ryan well. >> i don't know him well but i know about him. but i would say one word to the biden women. women. talking about affordable health care lilly ledbetter equal pay, i really think the divide among single women for the president is like 25 30 points and we have to have married women in that category as well, but i think it's really important. joe biden has been a champion when he served as chair of the judiciary committee, we was the author of the violence against women act, which paul ryan voted against. whether it's a women's right to choose, paul ryan is exactly like todd akin in terms of forcible rate, and no abortion even if the life of the mother is at steak. he is very extreme on those issues, and people have to know that. >> jennifer: that's interesting, because the gender gap closed in a few of these polls that we saw nationwide, and perhaps it was because that issue was not raised at all in the debate. this gives an opportunity for the vice president to really show their side for what they really. you actually we

in a bit of a tough spot. here is paul ryan trying to explain the impossible on fox us in yesterday. >> how much does that cost? >> it's revenue neutral. >> it's not revenue neutral unless you take away deductions. and we'll get to that. the first half lowering the tax rates does that cost $5 trillion -- >> no. >> you haven't given me the math. >> oh, it would take me too long to go through the math. >> come on i don't have the time to tell you how the math works. then he follows that awkward statement with another statement today. >> i like chris. i didn't want to get into all of any math of this because everybody would start changing the channel. >> jennifer: kind of funny. i isn't know candidates were worried about fox news ratings, and it wasn't just paul ryan having difficulty with this issue. governor bob mcdonald today was also at a loss to explain this math. >> where is the mat and is mitt romney going to be undepressure to produce specifics. >> first that's a laughable question. the question is how do you get america back to work? what paul ryan just said on your clip, is y

from happening. >> yes, but as we approach the vice presidential debate paul ryan viewed it as a great triumph. but the fiscal cliff is more than that, it is the expiration of all of the bush tax cuts from 2001 and 2003. and thank colludes the r&d credit, and the expiration of the payroll tax cut which has cut money in the pockets of most working americans, and also the dot fix, which means that we will get a dramatic cut in doctor's pay and havoc in medicare, and potentially, we'll end up with another debt limit being reached, and potentially another crisis there. so a hang over you are right, would be the least of it for a president. if all of those things expire in a weak economy you are talk about deep budget cuts and tax increases at a pretty difficult time. >> jennifer: you are a great watcher of congress and you know human behavior and when they approach go over a cliff, it is not going to stay there. but i want to talk about what john boehner said . . . so do you think that baner is bluffing? >> you talk about human behavior, and that includes individual not always strong

he selected paul ryan as his vice presidential candidate. he said that he knew it had come down to an economic choice. again, i don't think that undecided voters at home are sitting there scoring the number of punches that candidates land. they wanted to hear clear credible plans. that's what the president was focused on and will outline the choice in the days ahead. >> jennifer: which is great to hear. in fact, there was some news from democracy corps who did some focus grouping and for our viewers, undecided voters and those who were loosely affiliated, nobody switched to go to romney. >> that's right. the cnn panel was split exactly. >> jennifer: exactly. let's listen to a sound byte from the president on the stump in denver today. >> obama: when i got on to the stage, i met this very spirited fellow who claimed to be mitt romney. [ laughter ] but it couldn't have been mitt romney because the real mitt romney has been running around the country for the last year promising $5 trillion in tax cuts to pay for the wealthy. he didn't know anything about that. >> jennifer: all right.
